Split Pea Soup

split pea soup Ingredients:

  • 2 midle sized onions
  • 1 lb of peas
  • 3 middle sized potatoes
  • 2 carrots
  • 3 sausages
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tbsp of sweet paprika spice
  • 1 tbsp of fat
  • 3 tbsp of ketchup

I think that this meal is another simple meal, but it depends on the individual merit of what is simple. I'm a big fan of cooked meals and I think that they are relatively healthy. This dish consists of peas, potato, onions, carrots and sausages and everything except for potato which is almost exclusively carbohydrates has some nutritious ingredients.

You start with chopped onions, some water and a tablespoon of fat. Onions should be stewed for a minute or two and then you can add peas and potatoes. The point is all these ingredients can be added at once and after some time of cooking, say two hours, all of them will be prepared properly because it's not as hard to cook as for example raw beans.

Now add carrots and chopped sausages. These sausages are ready-to-eat kind but they don't have to be if you're going to cook everything properly and you can use meat but then you may start with it first and then everything else. The point again is that meat is processed ok if you cook all of this for some two hours.

Now add ketchup and fill with water. Also add one teaspoon of salt and one tablespoon of sweet paprika. Remember that you can always add more spices later but cannot take it from the finished meal obviously. Now simmer for about two hours and that's it!
