Caviar - A Gourmet Food Experience

Caviar, typically one of the symbols of luxury and prestige, is nothing more than salted fish eggs. This means it must be disgusting to eat, right? The truth is the taste of this delicacy largely depends on the individual, the particular caviar, and how it is prepared. For most people it’s the idea of eating raw fish eggs that turns them away, but for those brave enough to dive in they find that it is an enjoyable experience.

There are several types of caviar available ranging from Malossol to the wild and rare Caspian, and preparing it is simple. All you need is approximately 1 tsp. of your choice of caviar spread over a lightly buttered or unsalted cracker. Depending upon your taste you can add a light squeeze of fresh lemon. This can be great either plain, or you can add garnish such as chopped onion, hardboiled egg, or crème fraiche.

It should be noted that there are some health benefits to eating this unique addition to your meal. Because there is a limited amount of preparation done to create it, caviar keeps much of its minerals and vitamins intact. It is also a dish that is low in calories and can make for a wonderful addition to any meal. The important thing to remember is that there are a variety of ways it is made, and you may have a preference to one over the other, so experiment.
